Millennial on the Move: More Moves and Less Announcements
Though my journey to London took a lot of hard work, planning, and help from certain people. I did my best to keep everything under wraps until I got here. The only people that knew of my trip were those that needed to know, those that were lending a helping hand, and those that I knew would be impacted significantly by my absence (and vice versa).
After a year of trials, tribulations, failures and disappointments, I promised myself that in 2018 I would do everything I could, for me. Deciding to move to a different country for nearly half a year wasn't a decision I made for anyone else but myself. It wasn't to spite people from my past, or to prove anything to those who don't wish me well. This trip was to simply prove to myself that I can do anything I put my mind to.
With many milestones or major goals that we have, we often run to tell everyone of our plans before they ever are given a chance to come to fruition. What most people don'r realize is, announcing your moves prematurely can have negative consequences.
Details: It can be hard to stay warm while being fashionable at the same time. For cold dry windy days in London I usually always opt for this long wool overcoat. It's color makes it easy to pair with other basics like this black turtleneck, or with fun wintry patterns like this wool hounds-tooth pant. A white sneaker allows for some simplicity as well as comfortablity, and a wool hat paired with some dim shades keeps things chic. You all know I love a good bag, and the one I'm wearing here happens to be from one of my favorite designers, Ted Baker.
Think about that time you had a fresh and exciting new idea. Just as quickly as it came to your mind, you let it fill the ears of the people you thought would meet your excitement with support and encouragement. To your astonishment, they lacked both. They responded to your good news with criticism and uncertainty, which in turn left you feeling uncertain of yourself, doubtful, and unsure of your own creativity.
Or what about those times when you got a hold of an amazing, once in a lifetime opportunity. Out of elation you, again, run to tell everyone in sight. Some of those people are happy for you while others could care less, however everyone smiles in your face. Things take an unfortunate turn of events and for whatever reason, you no longer are able to take advantage of the opportunity. You are left with people who never cared in the first place asking questions and wondering... what happened?
Even if you can't relate to either scenario, ask yourself this question...
What if telling too many people my dreams and aspirations, only gives them the power to do their part in making sure those dreams and aspirations don't come true?
These days I only want criticism from my creator, and the few people who have played a major part in helping me become who I am. More moves and less announcements doesn't mean hiding or keeping secrets. It just means being excited for yourself first, and letting other people decide whether they want to or not, when it no longer matters!
