Letters from TC: The Beauty in Solitude

Letters from TC: The Beauty in Solitude

Friendship is extremely delicate and fragile.  And for me, it has always been something to be taken seriously.  Growing up watching my favorite TV shows, I always wanted a group of friends to roll with me through my shenanigans like Raven, Eddie, and Chelsea from disney channel.   Or a group of individuals to at least help me get a good laugh everyday, like Pam, Cole and Tommy always did for Martin and Gina.  The truth is that years later, after all of those great shows have stopped airing, the fantasy has subsided, and the adult me has realized that we are all lucky if we have one amazing person to call our friend.  The rest are sometimes just meant to be temporary characters that help complete different scenes.  After coming to this realization, the next step was understanding that there will be times when I have to make myself laugh, and times when I will have to get through the weeds and thorns alone, if I want to see my flowers grow later on.

One of my favorite things to do by myself is go thrifting.  The times when I go alone are usually when I find the best pieces.  For example, this entire look that I'm wearing above is thrifted.  From the sunglasses, to the snakeskin sandals, to the bag.

Solitude gives birth to the original in us, to beauty unfamiliar and perilous - to poetry.
— Thomas Mann

Many react to being alone with thoughts of fear and anxiety, but I encourage everyone to spend the solitary phases of their lives creating and growing.  Water yourself, and learn how to become your own best friend, because only then will you be prepared for the true friends that life will bring later on.  Work on your art, whatever that may be, and know that although solitude is only temporary, it is still necessary.  Cherish and make time for the friends you do have, and continue to perfect the masterpiece that is you.  All the other necessary people will fall into place.

People will tell you about how lonely it can be at the top, but they forget to tell you that sometimes, it can be lonely on the way there too.  You heard it here first.  Don't be scared to get through certain parts of the journey alone.  Find beauty in the solitude, and understand that it's mandatory in order for you to become your best self.
