From Sunset to Sunrise: Regroup, Rethink, and Try Again

From Sunset to Sunrise: Regroup, Rethink, and Try Again

This post is dedicated to the days when we wake up, and set out to do everything, yet somehow end up getting nothing done.  We've all been there.  Whether it's running errands or getting started on that project that you've been daydreaming about for weeks.  There are times when I will lay out everything I need right in front of me.  My computer, notebook, pen and paper.  They can all be right there, ready to be put to work, and still there is a disconnect.   Instead of spending hours getting things done, I spend hours thinking about all the things I need to do, and before I know it the day is over.

When on the go and getting tasks done, comfy and cute go hand in hand.  So for this look I rocked my Calvin Klein overalls with a cozy knit hoodie that I thrifted.  My bandana is from Urban Outfitters and my necklace and glasses are…

From working a job and maintaining good overall health, to having a decent social life and making time for family, to making sure you're surviving college and all the expenses that it brings, it can all leave you feeling overwhelmed.  So much so, that in the midst of all your motivation and plans, procrastination, laziness, and the pain of overthinking begin to all creep in and talk you out of making the most out of every minute of your day.  If not careful, this can become a pattern and lead you to making excuses for the behavior.

It's important to realize that you aren't alone.  As a fellow millennial, I struggle with periods of decreased productivity and motivation, and others do too.  Instagram, Twitter, and Snapchat don't necessarily help too much, but I will shed some light on the situation.

REGROUP

Eliminate the distractions! If necessary, turn your phone off and place it out of sight.  Social media can wait for a little while, and so can those text messages.  Make sure that you control your controllables, (food, water, energy).  You will almost never be able to focus on an empty stomach or when you are exhausted, so take care of those little things first.

RETHINK

  Ask yourself,

"What exactly do I need to get done?"

"Why do I need to get this done?"

"What are the benefits of getting this done?"

  and most importantly,

"What are the consequences of not getting this done?"

You have to hold yourself accountable.  We are responsible for a very large percentage of the things that happen to us.  So, just as you would talk to a coach or trainer for motivation, have a chat with yourself and understand who is really affected by each decision you make. (You)

Lastly,

Try Again

Every sunset is an opportunity for you to reflect on what you could have done better, and every sunrise is a new chance to tackle all those tasks, and to do so with the preparation and knowledge you've gained from the day before.

My last parting word, is to do all of these things in style, because well.. why not?
