Saying No to Sweatpants: Getting Dressed for Class

Saying No to Sweatpants: Getting Dressed for Class

In college there is an all too popular trend of going to class in the first thing you wake up and see.  Sweatpants and leggings have become the norm, and if someone is dressed up each day for class they are often asked questions such as...

 "Where are you going?"

"Why so fancy?"

and my personal favorite,

"Who are you trying to impress?"

For me, dressing up for lecture is my way of saying, "Let's do this."

Being that finals are less than three weeks away, I'm at the point in the semester where I need all the confidence and motivation that I can get.  My looks serve as a basis for how I want my day to go.

This look features my favorite pieces and is comfortable, yet sophisticated.

Express jeans, Giorgio Brutini tasseled loafers, and a v-neck Izod sweater.  My distressed denim jacket is by Grindhouse, undershirt by Nautica, and my briefcase and tie are both thrifted pieces.  Round frames from Amazon.

Sometimes I feel like dressing smooth and sophisticated, which is usually on the days where I have a combination of meetings and classes.  I need people to see me and know that I mean business.  Other days I may dress more casual and sporty, which are usually on warmer days when I grab my skateboard and hit the streets of campus.

When I look my best, I feel my best.  When I feel my best, I perform my best.  Sweatpants and a hoodie are acceptable on Mondays, and during those off weeks that everyone has once in awhile, but don't be afraid to spice up your look in the middle of the week.  It's almost never about impressing others, however it's always about confidence and presenting yourself in the best way possible.  If you have the clothes, wear them.  If you can put together the looks, serve them, and when they ask the questions...

"Where are you going?"

"Why so fancy?"

and my personal favorite,

"Who are you trying to impress?"

Tell them that you're on your way to have a great day, you're fancy because you feel like it, and you aren't trying to impress anyone, at all.
