Style and Sacrifice: What Are You Willing to Give Up?
First, forgive me for my long hiatus! I often wonder how many people actually read my blog, and how many of you notice my absence when I take a little break? Regardless, I have been learning and growing at a post-graduate pace, and have some thoughts to share with you. Thoughts that have caused me to reflect and make some changes in my own life.
The past six months have been a state of change for me. I’m no longer around people I used to see on a daily basis, and aside from co-workers.. I’m often the only person I interact with on a day to day basis. I don’t mean to say it in a 40 year old recently divorced kind of way.. but it has surely taken some getting used to. The great part about it is that I’ve had a lot more time to devote to my creative efforts, but at times there is a disconnect between recognizing the availability of this newfound time bank, and actually using it.
When I am productive and get personal projects accomplished, it feels absolutely great. If you are a fellow creative, then you understand that feeling. There’s nothing quite like it, because you are able to exhale as you look over your finished product. You analyze it with confidence, knowing that you saw an entire project through from it’s very conception, from start to finish.
The title of this post has to do with sacrifice, and the more time I spend on my own out of school, the more I learn about what it truly means to sacrifice. In the same way you may sacrifice purchasing a new pair of shoes in order to pay a bill on time, you may also sacrifice spending time doing things that are ‘enjoyable’ in order to do things that you need to get done. Or sacrifice hanging around people who don’t have common goals, in order to spend more time with people who do, or maybe just more time by yourself? There’s a quote that has been replaying in my mind for the past few weeks, it goes as follows…
The most interesting part about this quote is how it puts all the power in my hands. It’s my life, and I can’t expect anyone else to come along and make it what I want it to be. I can expect distractions, and I can decide how I will handle them. The overarching question I want you to consider, is what are you willing to sacrifice in order to create that beautiful life for yourself?
Friends?
Fun?
Relationships?
The outfit for this weeks post is centered around my new favorite accessory, this patent leather red bag! I’ve been looking for any excuse to wear it, and I finally found one. I’ve paired it with a mute and minimal mens ensemble, in order to allow the bag to stand out. My trench coat is by H&M, jeans are by ASOS, turtleneck is by Nautica, and my shoes are a thrifted pair of Allen Edmonds! My belt is by Ralph Lauren, and my watch is by Jord. Don’t be afraid to let your bag be your pop of color this Fall, and don’t be surprised if you all see this bag all over my Instagram! See you guys soon!
