Millennial on the Move: London

Millennial on the Move: London

Don’t tell yourself no, before someone else has the opportunity to tell you yes.
— T.C.

Although I didn't take the time to make a long list of new years resolutions, this is a rule I am doing my best to live by.  So many times we overthink our way out of opportunities by telling ourselves no, or that something is impossible.  In reality, anything is possible.  It may not work out in the way that's most comfortable for you and I, but that's the best part.  I have been blessed with the opportunity to spend my spring semester in London, and though it took a lot of hard work and planning, the biggest piece of the puzzle was to simply tell myself that it was indeed possible.  When I believed it was possible and told myself yes, I did everything in my power to figure the rest out.

Now that I'm here the real work begins.  And I'm doing my best to adjust to the new culture as quickly as possible.  From social cues to slang, almost everything is different.  Cars drive dramatically fast and on the opposite side of the street, which leaves little time to stare at your phone screen and also make it safely across.  The fashion? Exactly what you'd expect, killer.  The millennials here are in full effect.  They roam the streets adorned in the clothes that make them feel the most confident, with their iPhones glued to their fingertips.

The food is another aspect of the city that adds to the entire journey.  Being that the city is a melting pot of people from across Europe and the world, you will find almost any kind of cuisine here.  For lunch this day, I opted for Italian food, coupled with afternoon lemon ginger tea.

My style while abroad has shifted to simple and effortless.  While I live for dramatic pieces, it's easy to stand out here and fit in at the same time.  The city requires a lot of walking and use of public transportation, so comfort is definitely something to consider when getting dressed in the morning.  My wool overcoat keeps me warm and my vans can handle any long walk I give them.

While I am beyond grateful and happy to have this opportunity, I want more than anything to share it with you all.  I hope that through this blog along with my Instagram, you are able to see what the city has to offer.  I'm taking a little break from the Midwest, because for this moment in time, London is exactly where I'm supposed to be.  I told myself yes before anyone could tell me no.  So in 2018 I want you all to do the same thing... what opportunity is calling your name?
