Unleashing the Art: The Time Is Now
For many people, myself included, so many decisions I make are subconsciously based off of what other people will think, and how they will perceive me. When it comes to getting dressed, for the most part I wear whatever I want. I wear what I think looks good. However, when it comes to expressing other facets of my creativity, it always as easy.
When I talk to other creators and artists, they always have so many ideas, but rarely any of them ever come to fruition. It can be easy to come up with great concepts, but it's hard to see enough potential in them to work and ensure that they make it past the pages of your journal. It's easy for me to write because I'm writing for myself, and others. I know the impact that my words have on other people, therefore I don't usually second guess myself. As confident as I may be, my photography, singing, YouTube videos, dances, and poetry all must pass through so many barriers that I create before anyone ever gets to hear or see them.
As I write to you all, I encourage you to let yourself be vulnerable when it comes to your art. Half of the battle is just putting yourself out there. An old friend of mine would always say he never wants to create anything that is mediocre or less than his best. While I can relate to that sentiment, what I couldn't fully relate to was the fact that his fear of generating something that could be perceived as mediocre, kept him from creating anything at all.
My parting message to you all is to simply get out of your own way. As the opening quote states, by following your own voice and no one elses, you distinguish yourself. Trust your abilities and leave doubt out of the process!

On days like this I want to be comfortable more than anything. My new balances are great for when I have to run around campus, and my jeans allow me to keep cool while adding the perfect amount of flare.
