Letters from TC: On This Valentines Day...
First I’ll start by saying Happy Valentines Day, because I am a lover of love and wish to extend those feelings to you on this day. That’s what it’s about right? Love. With that being said, I’d be lying if I pretended that it doesn’t feel a little weird to be single today. This morning I woke up trying to figure out what my answer would be for everyone who asked me what my plans were. The continuous sight of edible arrangements, roses, and candy around campus can start to trigger sighs or a roll of the eyes, because in college, no one sends you a candy gram during homeroom. We don’t make valentines cards for the boys we are too afraid to speak to in gym class, and as Valentine’s Day gets closer, each trip to the grocery store becomes a mission to avoid that aisle full of pink, red, and white.
For the first time I considered the question, “Since when did one day have the power to make so many people feel lonely and uncomfortable?” We put unnecessary pressure on ourselves to fit into the mold of what Valentine’s Day is supposed to look like. The truth is that TV, Movies, and my favorite songs aren’t always the best at matching up with my reality. And right now, my reality is that I’m a working student, trying to align my life with the dreams and goals I have set for myself. I acknowledge the fact that while love would be convenient and comforting right now, this might not be the best time. There is no need to rush the unknown, because in my experience life has a funny way of presenting all the things you need when you are best able to receive them. I’m still on my self love journey, and if you are too, that’s perfectly fine. Love will find you.. and me! In the meantime, let’s just work on making sure we’re ready for it, deal?
In the look pictured above, winter white is most definitely in full effect! My shirt, scarf, sweater, and bag are all thrifted. Shoes are by Bass & Co., belt by Timberland, coat by Andrew Marc, and my watch is by Citizen.
